Keychron is best known for its high-quality, affordable mechanical keyboards. The manufacturer is now expanding its product line with its first docking station, which promises top-of-the-line features, including three Thunderbolt 5 ports, 140-watt Power Delivery, and support for two 8K monitors.

Keychron’s first docking station is aimed squarely at high-end competitors like the Ugreen Maxidok ($369 on Amazon), as Keychron makes virtually no compromises when it comes to features or design. The docking station features a high-quality aluminum housing, which, combined with a large metal heat sink inside, is designed to prevent the electronics from overheating.

This cooling is necessary because Keychron uses a 180-watt power supply, which allows connected laptops to be charged via USB-C Power Delivery at up to 140 watts. The back of the dock houses three Thunderbolt 5 ports, one of which is used to connect to a computer. Thunderbolt 5 achieves a maximum bandwidth of 120 Gbit/s, making it possible to connect two 8K monitors or four 4K screens to the dock.

The back panel also features two HDMI 2.1 ports, two USB-A ports (10 Gbit/s), and a 2.5 Gbit/s Ethernet port. For easier access, Keychron has placed all other ports on the front, including two USB-A (10 Gbit/s) ports, one USB-C (10 Gbit/s) port, a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and an SD and microSD card reader. The dock is also compatible with laptops and desktop PCs that only support Thunderbolt 4 or USB 4, although this reduces the bandwidth of some ports.

Pricing and availability

The Keychron Thunderbolt 5 Dock is available on Amazon and at Keychron's onlineshop for $349.99.
